DIR’s March 2014 Editor’s Note: Here Comes the Sun!

1291

“Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter

Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun

And I say it’s all right.” *

It seems like everyone has had it rough this winter, whether you’ve faced icy roads, gray skies, inches of snow that turned into feet, or school and store closings. It just hasn’t been fun. And as I write this, yet another snowstorm looms on the East Coast.

But there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

“Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces

Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun

And I say it’s all right.”

This weather hasn’t been great for business either. We all know that people tend to stay indoors when it gets cold—and certainly when it gets dangerous. So my letter this month is all about optimism; as you read this, spring is right around the corner.

“Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting

Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been clear

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun

And I say it’s all right.”

My thanks to George Harrison for helping me write this month’s Editor’s Note, and now that we’ve made it through an ugly winter, hope springs eternal. Happy spring to all of our readers—those smiling faces should be walking into your stores any day now…
