Alan and I were happy to attend the International Photographic Council’s Hall of Fame luncheon at the United Nations last week. The International Photographic Council (IPC) is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the power of photography as a universal means of communication.

Through their global community of photographers, educators as well as industry experts, they “strive to foster intercultural understanding and collaboration through visual storytelling.” What this event demonstrated is that the IPC is back in full force!

Among the many great things about this organization is their motto and driving force: Peace Through Photography, the Universal Language. It is a poignant message, given current world events.

The luncheon last week was an opportunity to catch up with many old friends. It was also an occasion to honor Neal Manowitz, president and COO of Sony Electronics. The organization inducted him into the 2023 IPC Hall of Fame. Neal has been a leader in our industry for the past 15 years. Moreover, he is a driving force for our industry and a good friend of our publication as well.

Further, IPC president Andy Marcus paid tribute to the organization’s longtime leader, Jimmy Chung, who passed away last year. Marcus awarded the new James L. Chung Memorial Scholarship to two Master of Professional Studies students at the School of Visual Arts. In addition, six other professional photographers were recognized for their extraordinary talents.

It was inspiring to see the outpouring of support for the IPC, especially during these times of great uncertainty and unrest. And it was great to have the chance to get together with some friends we hadn’t seen for a while. The event also received the support of industry leaders. They included Nikon, Canon, Sony, Sigma, Tamron, Fujifilm and Tiffen, among others.

Thanks to Andy Marcus and Kathy Jello for leading the way in organizing this event. Our industry should continue to support organizations like the IPC, and we look forward to hearing more from them. For additional information, please check out their website. Jerry-Grossman-Signature
