2024 International Photography Hall of Fame Inductees & Award Recipients

St. Louis, MO—The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum (IPHF) announced its 2024 class of inductees and awardees. IPHF will honor the inductees and awardees at a ceremony on November 1 at the .ZACK in the Grand Center Arts District in St. Louis, Missouri. IPHF_Logo_1224_7A

The organization annually awards as well as inducts notable photographers or photography industry visionaries for their artistry, innovation and significant contributions to the art and science of photography.

“The IPHF is proud to be the only International Photography Hall of Fame in the world, committed to educating the public about photographic history, while collecting, exhibiting and preserving historic images. The IPHF continues to recognize and honor those significant contributors to the evolution of the art and science of the photographic medium for almost 60 years,” said Bob Bishop, cochairman of the board of IPHF.

2024 International Photography Hall of Fame Class

The six 2024 inductees include photographers, visionaries and historians who exemplify the artistry, passion and evolution of the photographic arts.

Sam Abell

Abell is one of America’s most influential documentary photographers. He is celebrated in particular for his in-depth color photo essays for National Geographic magazine.

Eve Arnold

Arnold was a pioneering American photojournalist. She is celebrated for her candid and empathetic portraits of people from diverse walks of life.

Paul Caponigro

Caponigro is one of America’s most significant master photographers. He is known for his captivating and mystical landscape images. His exquisite silver gelatin prints depict images of nature, including flowers, cloud formations as well as forest settings. His work forms a visual bridge between the material world of physical forms and the living spirit behind them.

Richard Misrach

Misrach is one of the most influential photographers of his generation. In the 1970s, he helped pioneer the renaissance of color photography as well as large-scale presentation that are widespread today. Further, his ongoing series, Desert Cantos, is a multifaceted approach to the study of place and man’s complex relationship to it.

Martin Parr

Parr is one of the most noted documentary photographers of his generation. With more than 100 books of his own published, and another 30 edited, his photographic legacy is already established.

He also acts as a curator and editor of photography festivals. Moreover, he has been a member of the Magnum agency since 1994 and was president from 2013–2017.

Anne Wilkes Tucker

Wilkes Tucker is the curator emerita of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Furthermore, in 1976, she became the founding curator of the photography department for which she acquired 30,000 photographs made on all seven continents.

She curated or cocurated 40+ exhibitions, most with accompanying catalogues. She has also contributed articles to more than 150 magazines, books and other catalogues and has lectured extensively. Her honors, fellowships and awards include America’s Best Curator from Time magazine.

IPHF Visionary Award

In addition, the IPHF will bestow the 2024 IPHF Visionary Award to James Balog. For nearly 40 years, photographer James Balog has broken new conceptual and artistic ground on one of the most important issues of our era: human modification of nature.

To be eligible for induction, nominees were considered based on the noteworthy contributions they made to the art or science of photography that had a significant impact on the photography industry and/or history of photography. The inductees, though widely differing in style and practice, are individually seen as significant innovators in their respective fields. They are all risk takers who introduced the world to new means of artistic representation and expression.

“The 2024 Hall of Fame inductees and our Visionary Award winner represent the very finest in the field of photography. We are delighted to honor them,” added Bishop.

In addition to its commitment to the Photography Hall of Fame, the IPHF strives to educate the public about photographic history and to collect, exhibit as well as preserve historical images. IPHF’s permanent collection contains works from more than 500 artists and more than 10,000 photographs. The IPHF is located just south of St. Louis at 1315 N. Highway Dr., Fenton, Missouri.
