In Memoriam: Hans Kuhlmann

2542

Woodbury, NY—Hans G. Kuhlmann, photo-imaging industry veteran and former president of the Consumer Imaging division of Agfa-Gevaert Group, passed away in early February.

Kuhlmann retired in August 1999 following a successful 40-year career with Agfa. He joined Agfa AG in Germany and later transferred to the United States as a product systems specialist. Kuhlmann worked his way up the ranks, earning a number of management positions in Agfa’s photo business. He was appointed vice president in 1985 and eventually became president of the Consumer Imaging division of Agfa Corporation, the U.S. subsidiary.

Under his direction, the company increased its strength and market share in several arenas, including wholesale photofinishing equipment, independent photo specialty and professional markets. While focusing on the diversification of the industry, Kuhlmann helped Agfa expand its manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and establish itself as a market leader in providing private-label consumer film. After two years adjusting to “retirement,” he joined Photofinishing News in a consulting role.

In his illustrious career, Kuhlmann received the IPC Leadership Award, the Society for Imaging Science and Technology top award, the Lieven-Gevaert Award for outstanding achievements in the field of silver halide imaging, the 2000 PMDA Lifetime Achievement Award, and the PMA Distinguished Service Award for 2000.

Hans Kuhlmann is survived by his wife, Nelida, with whom he had recently moved to southern New Jersey to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on February 4 at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675, tel. 201-664-0292. A memorial mass will be held on February 5 at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Washington Township, New Jersey, tel. 201-664-6624.
