J.D. Power and Associates last week issued a study ranking various popular digital cameras in the area of customer satisfaction, in four separate categories.

According to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Digital Camera Usage and Satisfaction Study, the highest-ranking cameras in the point-and-shoot series are the Fujifilm Finepix S series, while the Canon PowerShot G series and Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ series tied for top honors among premium point and shoot cameras.

Sony’s Cyber-shot T series took the lead in the ultra-slim rankings, while top honors among DSLRs went, in another tie, to the Nikon D series and the Canon EOS Digital SLR.

The survey also delved into what users look for in a digital camera.

“Digital camera manufacturers are constantly adding new features in efforts to differentiate themselves from their competitors,” the head of J.D. Power’s technology practice, Larry Wu, said as part of the announcement. “”However, in adding new features, ease of use becomes critical in maintaining satisfaction, as average satisfaction scores are 235 points lower among customers who say their features were difficult to use.”
