Bonita Springs, FL—Margaret Elizabeth “Libby” Holmes Smith, a staff member of Photofinishing News since 1989 and a companion of its president, Don Franz, since 1970, died on March 26, 2011.

Born January 1, 1923 in Durham, North Carolina, Smith worked as an electronics technician at various companies until she retired in 1989, and even built five parts for the Space Shuttle. She traveled with Franz and Photofinishing News since 1972, visiting West and East Europe, South Africa, Egypt, Israel, India, China, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Mexico, Argentina and Canada.

Smith participated in many major photo-imaging industry events around the world and was known by so many people in the industry for “her beautiful smile, warm heart, quick wit and love of life,” said Franz. “She ‘never met a stranger,’ quickly making friends as she traveled around the world.”

Libby Holmes Smith had four children—Margaret Butler, Brenda Ihnen, Ray Smith and Betty Burton—14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
