Sony Follows Up #SonyX Contest with #Sonylove Instagram Contest


San Diego, CA—Sony followed up its successful #SonyX contest with the #Sonylove Instagram holiday contest, to encourage consumers to get out their cameras and smartphones, because one photo could get them “some awesome prizes.”


To celebrate “all the love that is in the air for the holidays,” the contest was open to all registered members of Instagram. Any photo could be entered that represents “love”—a person, product, place or simply something symbolic. Consumers could enter one photo per day, but they could also share a second photo of any Sony product they love using the same #Sonylove hashtag. 


There were two ways to win: the Sony Love Instagram Sweepstakes & Contest was a daily sweepstakes plus a skill contest. Sony chose one random entrant each day to win a $50 Sony Store gift card, just for entering. In addition to the sweeps, contestants vied for one grand prize and five runner-up honors.


The grand prize is a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1, a fixed lens, full-frame digital camera. The first runner-up receives two Vaio Duo Ultrabooks (one to keep and one to give to spread the love). The second runner-up earns two NEX-5R compact system cameras with a 16.1 megapixel APS-C-size sensor and Wi-Fi connectivity. The third runner-up garners two Xperia S Android tablets, while the fourth runner up wins two pairs of Sony X headphones. And a pair of Sony Action Cams for POV shooting goes to the fifth runner-up.


A panel of judges scored each eligible contest submission based on: appropriateness to theme (40% of total score); originality/creativity (40% of total score); and technique (20% of total score).


The contest ran from December 4, 2012 to December 31, 2012. Winners will be notified in January.
