The monthly measure of consumer confidence from the Consumer Electronics Association and CNET delivered another mixed verdict for October, as confidence in the overall economy rose, but expectations in consumer technology dropped slightly.
The CEA-CNET Index of Consumer Expectations (ICE) jumped five points to 174.1 in the month, bringing it to 10.4 points higher than its level in October 2008. However, the Index of Consumer Technology Expectations fell four points, despite improving 3.1 points from last October.
"With the holiday shopping season right around the corner, consumers are still being cautious towards spending," Anne Claudio of CBS Interactive, CNET’s parent company, said as part of the announcement. "Continued good news on the economy will drive spending in many categories, including technology, as consumers look to enjoy the holidays."
