The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced the Best of Innovation winners as well as honorees for CES 2018. The annual CES Innovation Awards program celebrates outstanding product design and engineering in brand-new consumer technology products.
“The CES Innovation Awards program honors companies and products that reflect innovation and ingenuity at the highest level,” said Karen Chupka, senior vice president, CES and corporate business strategy, CTA. “These exceptional products offer a glimpse into the possibilities of the consumer technology industry, with products and services that continue to improve our daily lives, better our world and push us forward.”
The CES Innovation Awards selects honorees across 28 product categories. A team of judges, comprised of experts in their fields, including designers, engineers and members of the tech media, review submissions. Submissions are judged based on design, functionality, consumer appeal, engineering and how they compare with competition.
Two levels of recipients are selected: Honoree and Best of Innovation. The Honoree designation is given to a product or technology that scores above the threshold set for a specific category. The Best of Innovation is bestowed only to the highest rated product or technology in a given category—or to multiple, in the event of a tie.
In addition, Best of Innovation winners and honorees will be featured in the Innovation Awards Showcase at CES 2018, January 9–12 in Las Vegas.
CES 2018 Best of Innovation: Digital Imaging
The Innovation Awards in the digital imaging category honors products that are designed to enhance the visual experience and/or allow the user to capture, store and edit still images or video. This year, Light’s Light L16 camera earned the CES 2018 Best of Innovation honors in the digital imaging category.
The Light L16 is a multi-aperture computational camera that builds digital SLR quality and capabilities into a device small enough to fit in a pocket. With more than 16 camera modules packed into its slim frame, the L16 captures the details of a scene at multiple focal lengths. It then uses sophisticated algorithms to combine multiple exposures into a single high-resolution photo. light.co
