Commack, NY—The Tiffen Company announced that the 2021 Gurwin Photo Contest was open for submissions through June 15, 2021. The contest accepted digital images for the first time via the portal below (9MB file maximum; no name on actual photo please) or click here to download a printable entry form.

The 28th Annual Gurwin Photo Contest, one of Long Island’s premier photo competitions, is made possible by longtime sponsor the Tiffen Company. Moreover, the sponsorship is in memory of Helen and Nat Tiffen, the company’s founder and a former Gurwin residents.

“Our contest is unique, giving amateur photographers a way to showcase their work while also doing good. Winning photos are enlarged, framed and hung in our Tiffen Gallery for one year then moved throughout our residence home for the enjoyment of residents, staff and visitors alike,” the Gurwin Healthcare System announced. “This year, we are pleased to offer a digital format to submit entries, and a new People’s Choice Award. 2021 Gurwin Photo Contest Tiffen-Logo-w-tag-2021

“We are also delighted to welcome back our sponsor, the Tiffen Company; it is a leading manufacturer of glass filters and other fine products for digital, still, video, motion pictures and television. Their support, in its 28th year, enables us to continue to enhance the lives of our residents through the exhibition of the breathtaking photography that is shared by amateur photographers in our community through this contest each year.”

2021 Gurwin Photo Contest

Entries for the Gurwin photo contest could be submitted in the following categories: landscapes, travel, people, pets, children, nature, wildlife, Long Island/New York, still life, action/sports, altered/enhanced and student. A maximum of seven entries per photographer was allowed, at $5 per entry.

The center will award cash prizes for Best in Show and the People’s Choice winner, as well as for the best photo in each category. Awards will be presented at a reception at the Gurwin Center in the fall. All winning entries, framed and titled, will display permanently at the center for the enjoyment of residents, visitors and staff.

Furthermore, professional photographers will serve as contest judges. They will select winners based on photographic skill, including clarity and composition, as well as subject matter and suitability for display at the Gurwin Center. The names of the winners will post on the Gurwin website by mid-July.

In addition, the public could vote for a favorite photo. Entrants were encouraged to share their submissions on social media; they could also ask friends to vote for their entry to garner the People’s Choice Award.

Winning photographers must authorize the use of their names and the reproduction of their work by the Gurwin Center; the work will have proper photo credit. The center will use them for exhibition, future publication and/or social media promotion.
