Center Valley, PA—Olympus marked a milestone with the 10-year anniversary of its North and South American headquarters being located in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Center Valley is within the Lehigh Valley.
The company began a new era when it relocated its headquarters from Melville, New York, on Long Island in July 2006. The move was part of a strategy to take advantage of the area’s benefits. These include the cost of conducting business; logistics and distribution advantages; recruitment needs; and the quality of life for its employees.
Over the past decade, Olympus Corporation of the Americas (OCA) has changed. Originally known for its history in developing and marketing cameras, it is now recognized for diverse offerings and businesses. These include its medical business, which accounts for more than 75% of the company’s annual global revenue.
Since the relocation, OCA has grown its respective annual revenue and increased its contribution to global revenue from 23% in 2006 to 36% in 2016.
Also, OCA has expanded its employee base since establishing itself in the Lehigh Valley. Employing about 600 people in 2006, it now employs nearly 1,000 between its office in Center Valley and its Breinigsville distribution center. That facility is now the largest distribution center for shipping Olympus medical products throughout North and South America.
“Olympus’s success and growth over the last 10 years in the Lehigh Valley is attributed to the dedication and engagement of employees, as well as the significant support of our partners and the community,” said Nacho Abia, president and CEO, OCA. “We are grateful to be a part of this community. And also thankful for the opportunities it has afforded us to prosper. We look forward to further enhancing our relationships, developing new partnerships and contributing our talents and resources to a community we are very proud to call home.”
Celebrate and Serve
He added that most notable might be the mutually rewarding relationships that have developed over the years with local vendors, organizations and the community. OCA relies on the expertise of more than 270 vendors in the area, partners with various organizations on common goals. And it commits to giving back to community through charitable donations and volunteerism.
Additionally, OCA offers all employees the opportunity to dedicate 16 hours of work time to volunteering. This year, to help commemorate its 10-year anniversary, it also launched a Celebrate and Serve initiative. Celebrate and Serve challenges employees to dedicate 2,016 volunteer hours to local nonprofits by the end of September. olympusamerica.com
