Port Washington, NY—According to the NPD Group, mirrorless cameras are no longer a niche digital imaging product, as they offer advantages in size, weight as well as longer battery life.
Moreover, these features are driving their sales growth. In the last two years, mirrorless cameras are the only segment of the market that experienced dollar sales growth in the U.S., according to NPD’s U.S. Retail Tracking Service.
Mirrorless Cameras Market Share Based on U.S. Dollar Sales
In fact, these cameras have gained seven share points from the 12 months ending July 2017 to the 12 months ending July 2018. As a result, they now make up 22 percent of U.S. dollar sales.
This growing consumer interest will continue to be fueled by new interchangeable-lens cameras, as both Nikon and Canon introduced full-frame mirrorless camera systems over the last several weeks.—Stephen Baker, Vice President, Industry Advisor, the NPD Group.
