Promotions & Full-Frame ILCs Help Drive U.S. Holiday Camera Sales
Port Washington, NY—For Tech Trends January/February 2023, we look at holiday camera sales. Detachable-lens camera sales revenue grew 9 percent during the 2022 holiday season. Revenue was driven by both the mirrorless and DSLR camera segments, according to the NPD Group’s Weekly Retail Tracking Service.

Mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera sales revenue grew 11 per this past holiday selling season. This growth was fueled by a stronger promotional environment, with average sales prices (ASPs) down 11 percent after two years of 20+ percent growth. Further, this was spurred by a strong interest in full-frame cameras. They accounted for 64 percent of mirrorless camera sales.

In addition, digital SLR sales revenue increased 5 percent over holiday 2021 figures. NPD also attributed this to steeper promotions.
