DIR May 2013 Editor’s Note: Inspiration and Innovation

We’ve been thinking for a while that sometimes our industry needs to stop talking to ourselves and start listening to what others are doing around us that just might provide some answers.

This was the impetus for Digital Imaging Reporter’s DI Symposium, which will take place on June 24, 2013 in New York City. We wanted to provide a daylong forum for our industry to explore what’s happening around us—and how it might affect the way in which we all do business. The program will feature some of our own, but also some authors and entrepreneurs who really understand how today’s socially connected consumers are making purchase decisions—what they’re saying and what they’re thinking.

Sometimes we get comfortable within our own four walls; this is an opportunity to take a day to think about what’s happening outside of those walls. We truly hope many of you can join us for this event, which is part of CE Week in New York. On another note, I recently returned from The Big Photo Show in Los Angeles, and I’d like to congratulate PMA on a great success. The convention center was buzzing with photo enthusiasts, and dealers, like Sammy’s and Paul’s Photo, were very pleased with the results. The plans are to make this an annual event, and I look forward to more exhibitors making the trip next year.
