Lake Success, NY—Canon USA, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the New York Yankees again rallied together to raise awareness for child safety. At Canon’s eighth annual promotional night at Yankee Stadium, Canon and NCMEC highlighted the efforts performed in lost child recovery and the steps parents can take to help avoid these crises.

During a pregame ceremony, Kunihiko Tedo, senior vice president, CFO and treasurer, Finance and Accounting, Canon USA, presented John Ryan, chairman elect, NCMEC, with a check for $460,250, representing the cumulative value of all donations generated by Canon USA in 2011.

“Through our support of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children we continue to strive for success in the search for missing children. Since our partnership began, 691 children featured in Canon public service announcements have been recovered,” said Joe Adachi, president and CEO, Canon USA. “The recovery efforts and acts performed by the National Center have positively touched the lives of so many and we are proud to continue to work alongside them.”

At the center of Canon’s partnership with the NCMEC to educate the public about the issue of missing and exploited children is the Canon4Kids program, which raises awareness about child abduction, exploitation and the power of photos to keep children safer. As part of this program, more than 2,000 pieces of donated Canon equipment (digital cameras, fax machines, printers and scanners) have been distributed to law enforcement agencies in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The program also includes the placement of public service announcements with photographs of missing children in newspapers and magazines across the country to help in the recovery process.

“A current photograph can be one of the most crucial instruments in searching for missing children,” said Ernie Allen, president and CEO of NCMEC. “We are very thankful that Canon continues to work with us and supports our efforts by providing vital technology to many police departments across America. Together we are helping keep children safer and reuniting families.”

Canon also promotes the Canon4Kids program on its website (usa.canon.com/Canon4Kids) to help educate parents and guardians on how to take and maintain updated photos of their children and offers an emergency action plan for parents who believe their child may be missing. In addition, the Canon4Kids program advocates child safety and awareness through various public service announcements and public events that feature photos of missing children, parental safety tips, as well as the NCMEC hotline (1.800.THE.LOST). usa.canon.com
