Carl Zeiss AG Chairman of Supervisory Board Appointed

Allendale, NJ—At the Carl Zeiss AG shareholders’ meeting, Dr. Michael Bolle was appointed the new supervisory board member to represent the sole shareholder of the Carl Zeiss Foundation. Moreover, the board will elect Dr. Bolle as Carl Zeiss AG chairman of the supervisory board in January 2022.

Dr. Bolle will succeed Dr. Dieter Kurz, whose mandate as chairman of the supervisory board will end on December 31, 2021. Dr. Kurz has served in that role for almost 10 years.

Since 2012, Dr. Kurz has also held the position of chairman of the Shareholder Council of the Carl Zeiss Foundation. What’s more, he joined Zeiss back in 1979; from 2001 he served as spokesman as well as president and CEO of Zeiss.

Effective January 1, 2022, Dr. Bolle will also take over from Dr. Kurz as chairman of the Shareholder Council of the Carl Zeiss Foundation. As such, he will represent all the shareholder interests of the foundation.

Dr. Michael Bolle has a PhD in engineering and has held executive positions at Bosch since 1992. Furthermore, he took a break from 1999 through 2002 to establish a high-tech start-up.

Most recently, he was a member of the management board of Robert Bosch GmbH, chief technology officer (CTO) as well as chief digital officer (CDO). In addition, during his time at Bosch, Dr. Bolle was the driving force behind the creation of the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence. He helped to link up the Internet of Things with artificial intelligence (AIoT).
