Skylum’s newest team member will position the software company for expansive growth in the Asian market. Tchebotarev will focus on partnerships, distribution as well as building a local photo community around Skylum’s software lineup.

“I have always been inspired by what Evgeny has done for the community. He has created the most innovative as well as user-friendly social platform for photographers. I believe that as a part of the Skylum team, Evgeny can do even more for creators around the globe. Moreover, we have revolutionary plans, and it’s an honor to have such team players on board,” said Alex Tsepko, CEO of Skylum.

Originally from Moscow, Tchebotarev cofounded 500px in 2004 as a community for photographers to share their work and experiences online. Over the next 14 years, the 500px community grew to more than 13 million photographers. It was acquired by Visual China Group (VCG) in 2018.  Skylum-LogoFurthermore, since Tchebotarev’s departure from 500px, he’s spent most of his time in Asia, working with companies to build and market their products.

With knowledge and insights gained from his 14 years at the helm of 500px—as well as his time as a product management consultant in the Asia-Pacific market—Tchebotarev will be responsible for establishing Skylum’s presence and fostering partnerships in the Asia region. Moreover, the goal is to build a stronger photography community to bring photo-editing applications to more people.

Already, Skylum software is used by hundreds of thousands of photographers across Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and beyond, but there’s still progress to be made, added Tsepko.

Tchebotarev will take his knowledge of photography, product development as well as the Asia-Pacific market to expand Skylum’s presence, both online and on the street. He will organize events such as photo walks, community meet-ups and contests across the region.

“What’s important to me is Skylum’s complete dedication to building great software and providing exceptional value to photographers. All while building a real community of passionate photographers. This strongly resonates with my personal and professional ambitions. Moreover, being able to do so in a highly competitive, fast paced, and unique market, such as Asia, is an additional challenge that I’m excited to take head on,” commented Tchebotarev.

In addition, Tchebotarev is an active photographer and has judged various world-class photo contests. They include Red Bull Illume, Photo Life as well as the Sony World Photography Awards. Recently he was consulting with companies in Asia on helping to build product management expertise.
