Madrid, Spain—The general assembly of the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) convened on June 5, 2020. Twenty-four member magazine representatives from around the world joined on an unprecedented online Zoom assembly. The TIPA general assembly took up budgets and future planning, with reports from Thomas Gerwers, chairman, and Roland Franken, treasurer.
Furthermore, in ordinary times, the business reports are followed by voting on the TIPA World Awards. However, given the pandemic circumstances, the balloting took place earlier this year via online voting. In addition, the organization thanked the winners for their enthusiastic support.
“These are extraordinary times; while our preference of course would be to meet in person, we felt it was important to continue to support the photo and imaging industry by going ahead with our meetings and awards,” said Thomas Gerwers. “I salute each member for the hard work they have put in during these challenging times for both their own business and the industry at large.
“I trust that next year we will meet in person; and that with all your support the industry will once again grow and thrive. Moreover, I wish you, your family, friends and associates the best. We are all in the same boat; if we work together, we will stand together to look back on this time and realize the importance of mutual support as well as understanding, especially in the most difficult of times.”
TIPA General Assembly New Members
Moreover, an important part of the general assembly is consideration of new members into the organization. Three new publications made presentations, all of whom were welcomed into the group.
The new members include Digital Imaging Reporter. DIR is the only trade publication of record covering the photo and imaging industry in the U.S. The 28-year-old trade paper publishes both a hard copy magazine and an online edition at DIReporter.com.
“We are honored at Digital Imaging Reporter to be invited as the newest member of TIPA,” said Jerry Grossman, the trade publication’s editor in chief. “TIPA has a long-standing history of bringing value to the imaging industry, especially through their annual TIPA awards for outstanding products. We look forward to participatingas a part of this important worldwide organization.”
In addition, the other new members are rangefinderonline.com, a website for professional and aspiring pro photographers; and DIGIFOTO Pro, a Dutch magazine for enthusiast photographers.
All three of these publications continue the tradition of a dynamic mix that appeals to every segment and level of photography and imaging; the hallmark of the association.
Furthermore, at the close of the meeting, the members voted to reconfirm three members of the board for another four-year term. These members are Thomas Gerwers as chairman; Roland Franken as treasurer; and Johan Elzenga as secretary.
