Bethlehem, PA—The M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS Pro was introduced by OM Digital Solutions as “the ultimate field macro lens for the seasoned professional and macro curious alike.”

The Micro Four Thirds telephoto macro lens provides up to 2x-equivalent magnification, making it the highest magnification lens made by the company. Moreover, photographers can increase that to 4x using the separately sold MC-20 2x teleconverter for an enhanced outdoor macro photography experience. As a result, the lens can reproduce details in close-up shots of flowers, and even virtually microscopic objects such as the scales on a butterfly’s wings.

“The M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS Pro is the ideal telephoto lens for stress-free outdoor shooting of any kind, from nature to landscapes to macro,” the company announced. That’s because the compact lens features IP53 dustproof and splashproof performance, as well as freezeproof protection down to 14°F.

M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS Pro Key Features

The prime lens boasts an in-lens image stabilization system with 5-axis sync-IS that delivers 7 steps of shutter speed compensation when combined with a compatible camera body. Further, it utilizes an acceleration sensor that detects motion blur for correction of shift. No need for a tripod!

Beyond its macro capabilities, photographers can use the lens as a single-focal-length telephoto lens to capture distant subjects with clarity. Moreover, to ensure stable performance with good depiction for everything from close-up to standard distances, the lens boasts an 18-element, 13-groups optical design.

The optical formula includes two super ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses, four ED lenses, one super HR (high refractive index) lens as well as one HR lens. Consequently, the lens suppresses the chromatic aberration often seen when shooting close-ups. What’s more, even defocused areas are depicted with minimal color bleeding. Plus, ZERO (Zuiko extra-low reflection optical) coating eliminates ghosts and flares even in backlit situations. This also provides effective suppression of spot flaring, a common occurrence with macro lenses.

In addition, the lens achieves autofocus across the entire range from close-up photography to infinity. A floating inner focusing system with two focusing lens groups are driven independently for high-speed AF. Further, a focus-stacking function makes it easier to capture photos that are in focus across the subject, even for ultrahigh-mag macro shooting or when shooting handheld.

Additional Features

The new lens also provides a focus limit switch that sets the focusing range to define focus limits, enabling faster focusing. Plus, a manual focus clutch mechanism allows rapid transition from AF to manual focus and has a guide shooting magnification for use when shooting with manual focus. Lastly, an L-Fn (lens function) button on the side of the lens lets users change settings with a thumb while holding the camera. M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS Pro-OM-Systems-Logo

For additional all-weather performance, the weather-sealed lens has a scratch- and dirt-resistant fluorine coating on its front-most lens. This also enables the removal of dust and dirt using a blower or cloth. Measuring 5.4×2.8 inches and weighing one pound, it is a compact, portable companion for OM System cameras.

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS Pro will reach retail in March. It will have a suggest retail price of $1,499.99.
