White Plains, NY—Zeiss announced its latest cinema lens—the Zeiss Supreme Prime 15mm T1.8. The new lens is part of the company’s high-end yet lightweight Supreme Prime lens family. The 14-piece cine lens series ranges from 15mm to 200mm. It also offers maximum apertures of T1.5 to T2.2 to meet the demand of cinematographers.

“This 15mm lens is the final piece of the puzzle that many cinematographers were waiting for,” reported Christophe Casenave, responsible for cinematography products at Zeiss.

“Super 35 cameras remain extremely popular. By adding the 15mm lens, we are now making the Supreme Primes even more attractive to all users; providing greater creativity when using Super 35 or full-frame cameras and more.”

Furthermore, the new 15mm lens rounds out the lineup with an extremely wide-angle view and a maximum aperture of T1.8. Zeiss Supreme Prime lenses also cover a wide range of camera sensors. They include the Sony Venice (2), the ARRI Alexa (Mini) LF as well as the RED Monstro.

In addition, with their high-quality workmanship and rugged design, Supreme Primes work in a wide variety of situations added Casenave.

The front diameter of 95mm on almost all lenses and the line’s standardized positioning of the focus and iris rings also facilitate easy equipment changeout. Moreover, the compact and lightweight form enables comfortable handling. Further, the lenses feature ultra-smooth focus rotation even in extreme temperatures.

The cinematic look provided by the lens features a subtle and gradual focus falloff as well as a warm and soft bokeh. What’s more, cinematographers Armin Franzen and David Higgs, BSC, relied on the Zeiss Supreme Prime lens family for the upcoming third season of the Sky series Das Boot.

Supreme Prime lenses also shot the science fiction adventure The Adam Project (Tobias Schliessler, ASC) and Knives Out 2 (Steve Yedlin, ASC)—both Netflix productions. You can find more movies and TV series shot with Zeiss Supreme Prime lenses here
