Cypress, CA—Mitsubishi Electric U.S. introduced the Smart Selfie Print Station. The Wi-Fi accessory is designed for quick printing from iPhone or Android smart devices. The device is on display this week at WPPI 2017 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, booth #727.
The print station will allow professional photographers to offer wireless printing from smart devices as an add-on to any wedding or event package. Unlike most Wi-Fi photo printing, Mitsubishi’s Smart Selfie Print Station creates its own peer-to-peer hot spot. The hot spot is then accessible from smartphones or tablets, even when no Internet connection is available.
“There can be many barriers to getting an Internet signal at a restaurant, hotel and also catering center. And the service can be spotty or expensive,” said James Chan, director, marketing and business planning at the Visual and Imaging Systems Division of Mitsubishi Electric U.S. “With our peer-to-peer, local Wi-Fi hot spot, users don’t need an Internet connection to download an app just to print a photo from their device.”
The print station is a small, self-contained Linux computer that attaches to and augments the capabilities of Mitsubishi’s CP-D90DW event photo printer. Admin-level users have a range of customizable options available. These include creating a custom Wi-Fi SSID name (i.e., Lisa & Mark’s Wedding) as well as choosing the print size and format. As a result, photographers can permit guests to print their own photos in 2×6-inch strips or 4×6 prints.
“Everyone takes pictures at a wedding, but now guests can print their photos wirelessly, right from their smartphones. And they share them immediately with each other,” added Chan. “It’s a valuable benefit that can result in extra income to a photographer’s bottom line. Additionally, it adds more fun to any event.”
Smart Selfie Print Station Availability
The Mitsubishi CP-D90DW dye-sublimation photo printer is available for $999. Mitsubishi expects to ship the Smart Selfie Print Station as an optional accessory for the CP-D90DW printer in March.
