The January 20, 2020 edition’s featured photographer is Dan Schykulski, a landscape photographer based in Alberta, Canada.
“My favorite things about photographing Alberta is the diversity of the landscape as well as the constantly changing weather,” says Schykulski. “You can return to your favorite spots over and over again and come away with something completely different.
“Choosing a favorite photo is not easy, because there is an emotional attachment to each one of them. However, I decided on a photo I took last October in one of my favorite places, Lake Louise.
“I love the snow-covered trees contrasted with the blue water. Moreover, it’s a shot I wanted to get for a while. When I arrived on this particular day, the conditions were almost perfect, but it was quite windy. I thought my chances of getting any reflection were pretty slim.
“I took a few long exposure shots using an ND filter to flatten out the water. It was nice but not exactly what I wanted. I decided to wait and see if the wind would die down, and after about an hour it did. I couldn’t have been happier. There is nothing more satisfying than coming away with the exact shot you were hoping to get.”
