Los Angeles, CA—Aputure introduced its newest LED light fixture—the Aputure Light Storm LS 300x. For shooting stills and video, the LS 300x is the first bicolor Bowens-S mount lighting fixture compatible with optical lens modifiers.
The 300x is Aputure’s flagship Light Storm LED fixture; it integrates mixed variable-white lighting into a modifiable point-source light engine. The fixture features a specially designed color-blending optical element in front of its LED light source; it combines the bicolor chipset into one point-source. Furthermore, the combination of this technology, along with the Aputure ecosystem, allows users to achieve bicolor flexibility.
The new fixture continues Aputure’s tradition of compatibility with the Bowens-S mount. As a result, it offers a variety of both soft light and optical modifiers. Moreover, with the Bowens mount, users can change the quality of the light source in seconds. The 300x’s Bowens mount also works with other industry-standard modifiers via a Bowens mount speed ring.
Aputure Light Storm LS 300X Key Features
With its Fresnel 2x, the LS 300x produces more than 56,000 lux at a meter; it creates a bright light with CCT control at a fingertip. What’s more, by having the ability to use lensed modifiers like the Fresnel 2x or the spotlight mount, in addition to soft light modifiers like the Light Dome II, users achieve lighting precision to match a shooting environment. Thy can spot, flood, cut as well as diffuse light without unwanted artifacts while controlling the white point.
In addition, the 300x provides an expanded vari-white CCT range of 2700K–6500K, going beyond traditional bicolor. As a result, users can produce light that is warmer than typical tungsten fixtures and cooler than conventional daylight (D55). This also means fewer gels to carry.
Moreover, like all Aputure lights, the 300x sports color rendering abilities with CRI and TLCI scores of 96+; a tungsten SSI score of up to 85; and a D55 SSI score of up to 74.
The fixture also takes a note from the 300d II by incorporating the same lamp head and control box designs. It has a 360º adjustable handbrake locking yoke. It also matches the 300d II with a silent, passively-cooled control box; integrating the power supply and control system into one unit.
However, the 300x adds a new CCT control wheel, in addition to the intensity wheel. Its CCT dial enables users to fine-tune the CCT in +/- 50K increments. Furthermore, with the preset button located in the middle of the wheel, users can also toggle between five common CCT presets (2700K, 3200K, 4300K, 5500K, 6500K).
The 300x also features two output modes: max output and constant output. In constant output mode, users can change the CCT while maintaining a consistent luminance level. Combined with a smoother dimming system, they can also shift color temperature in the middle of a scene. Conversely, in max output mode, the 300x will maximize output for the CCT and dimming level, with the highest output range being 4000K–5500K.
Also like the 300d II, the 300x operates with a single battery for up to half of its maximum output or two batteries for full power. Its control box also displays real-time remaining battery life.
The new light fixture is also compatible with multiple control methods. In addition to the control wheels, users can control the 300x via Aputure’s 2.4G RF remote DMX512, as well as by the Bluetooth Mesh Sidus Link app. Moreover, with the added range of multiple Sidus Link lights active, they can control all of their lights’ settings from anywhere on set.
For more creativity, the 300x has nine built-in lighting FX. They include paparazzi, fireworks, lightning, faulty bulb, TV, pulsing, strobe, explosion as well as fire. All have adjustable color temperatures.
In addition, the device’s capabilities will continue to grow with firmware upgrades to both the fixture and the Sidus Link.
The integration of the Sidus Mesh chipset gives users professional lighting control from a single app.
The Aputure Light Storm LS 300X is available now for $1,199.
