Samsung Updates Gear 360 with 4K, 360º Video Capture

Upgraded Design, 15MP Photos and Live Stream Capability Added

Ridgewood, NJ—Samsung Electronics America announced a new Samsung Gear 360. The 4K-resolution, 360º videocam expands Samsung’s overall virtual reality ecosystem.

The new Gear 360 offers enhanced features for producing higher quality content, including a streamlined workflow. The resolution of captured video was increased from 3,840×1,920 to 4,096×2,048 pixels. The camera is lightweight and compact, with a more refined and accessible design to enable even novices to capture life in immersive content.

“As consumers turn more to video to share their experiences, we want to deliver accessible and innovative products to make digital content easier to create, share and stream. The Gear 360 is no exception,” said DJ Koh, president of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “The updated Gear 360 continues to expand the horizons of what consumers can experience and share.”

For the first time, the Gear 360 camera offers video recording at up to 4K resolution, and also lets consumers capture and share moments with friends and family more easily. Equipped with two 8.4 megapixel fisheye cameras, the video device can also capture 15MP still images.

Other features include time-lapse video, looping video and landscape HDR modes. The device is also dust and water resistant and includes a microSD card slot.

By pairing it with the Gear 360 app, users can control the camera remotely as well as stitch, edit and share content on the go. Whether creating a 360º video or still images, they can access various viewing modes and editing tools to use on their content.

Gear 360 Connectivity

Samsung enhanced the device with real-time content sharing. When it is paired with a smartphone, the device lets users share 2K content to social media platforms. These include Facebook, YouTube and Samsung VR.

The camera has built-in Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth v4.1 as well as a USB 2.0, Type-C connector.

In addition, the latest edition of Gear 360 is compatible with Samsung flagship devices. These devices include the newly released Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.
