Lawrenceville, NJ—The Datacolor Spyder X2 Print Studio and Spyder X2 Photo Studio kits were released. The kits are cost-effective options that include the essential tools photographers need to ensure color accuracy, consistency and fine detail from image capture through display. Spyder X2 Print Studio further ensures color accuracy and consistency through final printout.
“The Spyder X2 Print Studio and Spyder X2 Photo Studio were designed for photographers seeking to enhance their workflow efficiency and achieve precise color and printing quality,” said Casey Krugman, Product manager, Imaging, Datacolor. “These all-in-one kits will assist you in managing color correction and consistently deliver exceptional results every time.”
Datacolor Spyder X2 Print Studio
The Spyder X2 Print Studio is tailored for photographers who want total control over their entire photographic workflow. This includes from image capture through editing and display, plus printing. The kit includes the Spyder Cube ($54 separately) for managing exposure and white balance with greater precision than a gray card. It also bundles the Spyder X2 Ultra for accurately color calibrating monitors and projectors in less than two minutes ($299). Plus, it contains the Spyder Print ($349), for optimizing print results. It also allows you to create multiple custom printer profiles.
Spyder Cube’s 3-dimensional design differs from traditional gray cards. It mimics the way light falls on your subject. The design enables you to see primary and secondary light sources for more precise white balance correction. It also includes a black trap for an absolute black reference that allows you to set a true black point in an image. Additionally, its chrome ball permits you to see specular highlights.
Spyder X2 Ultra
This is a color calibration tool for display monitors. It is for photographers, videographers, content creators and HDR content producers/consumers with HDR/high brightness monitors and advanced calibration needs. Or those who run multiple displays on one or more computers. It is also a solution for tethered shooting; outdoor shoots where bright monitors attached to a computer are essential; location shooting (photo/video); landscape photography; outdoor portraiture; as well as in studio.
All these components come housed in a metal case. The Datacolor Spyder X2 Print Studio is priced at $499.99.
Datacolor Spyder X2 Photo Studio
The Spyder X2 Photo Studio is a color management kit for photographers. Moreover, it contains tools for accurate, consistent color management from capture through editing and display.
The kit includes both the Spyder Cube and Spyder X2 Ultra as well as the Spyder LensCal ($69 separately) for fine-tuning autofocus on DSLRs and lenses. The kit also contains the Spyder Checkr ($139). It’s an option for studio work or location shoots due to its larger size and rigid case with a tripod mount.
Some reasons for poor camera focus are camera shake, too slow of a shutter speed and subject movement. Another is autofocus calibration error. DSLRs utilize a separate focus system that you can adjust to maximize performance in most mid to high-end cameras. Each lens will perform differently on different camera bodies. So, making adjustments by calibrating the lens to the camera using Spyder LensCal can improve focus accuracy.
Spyder Checkr comes with 48 spectrally engineered color patches that include the standard 24 sRGB color space. It also has expanded color reference patches and targets for skin tones. When you use the Spyder Checkr color target card as a color reference in a photo shoot, Spyder Checkr’s software will automatically color correct your images through an HSL preset in Adobe Lightroom Classic, Adobe Camera RAW as well as Hasselblad Phocus.
The Datacolor Spyder X2 Photo Studio also includes a metal case. SRP: $399.99.
