Los Angeles, CA—The DJI Ronin 4D Flex was introduced as a new way to use the Ronin 4D professional cinema camera platform. The 4D Flex allows operators to separate the Zenmuse X9 gimbal camera from the main body. As a result, it reduces the handheld weight and size to shoot professional footage with more flexible camera movement.

DJI also debuted the DL PZ 17–28mm T3.0 lens. It is DJI’s first-ever cinema-grade zoom lens, allowing for 100% native focus and zoom. In addition, an activation license key for the Apple ProRes RAW codec on the Ronin 4D is now available for purchase at the DJI Store.

“The Ronin 4D reimagined what a single cinema camera can do by achieving a new standard of versatility, cinema quality and image stability in one piece of equipment,” said Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI.

“4D Flex and the DL PZ 17–28mm lens show the expansive capabilities of this platform to allow cinematographers to capture footage in completely new ways. With these products, we want to express that when it comes to what’s possible with DJI Pro, we’re only getting started.”

DJI Ronin 4D Flex

The Ronin 4D Flex provides creators with a more flexible, efficient camera movement system. Moreover, solo operators can separate the X9 gimbal camera from the main body, reducing the handheld weight of the Ronin 4D to less than 4 pounds. Consequently, filmmakers can shoot for longer durations more easily in situations like events and documentaries.

The 4D Flex also makes the X9 gimbal camera compatible with various rigs. Thus, professional crews can shoot footage that was previously difficult or impossible, such as cinema-quality through-shots and dynamic camera interiors.

Further, connecting the device to the main body is a 6.6-foot ultrathin coaxial cable, supporting lossless transmission of up to 8K. This allows high-speed signals from the camera sensor to reach the main body instantly. In addition, it delivers control and monitoring signals in real time. The solid cable connection lends the 4D Flex flexibility of camera positions, no matter how limited the space. It also enables filmmakers to use the Zenmuse X9 gimbal camera as a compact, cinematic-grade remote head.

Additionally, the Ronin 4D Flex is compatible with the Ronin ecosystem of professional cinematography solutions. The native compatibility of its handgrips and the main monitor provides cinematographers with solutions that include cinematic imaging, 3-axis stabilization, LiDAR focusing and professional monitoring and control.

DJI also says that switching between the Flex and the integrated configuration on set is fast, and no tools are required. For static shots, the standard pan axis quick-lock with accessories pushes the limits of the gimbal’s payload. As a result, it will support telephoto, cinema zoom and anamorphic lenses.

DJI DL PZ 17–28mm T3.0 Cinema Zoom Lens

The DL PZ 17–28mm T3.0 is DJI’s first cinema-grade zoom lens. Thanks to its back focus control and native system calibration, autofocus, manual focus and automated manual focus (AMF) are more accurate.

Moreover, mounted on the Zenmuse X9, the lens delivers ultrahigh resolution from center to edge. It also covers ultrawide to wide-angle focal lengths with a minimum object distance of 7.5 inches.

Constructed of aluminum magnesium alloy, the DL PZ 17–28mm T3.0 lens weighs approximately 1.1 pounds. It also provides a size-to-weight ratio that is a match to the X9 gimbal camera. What’s more, the internal servo zoom motor delivers smooth zooming that eliminates the need for an external focus motor or lens calibration. And the lens adjusts zoom without requiring rebalancing.

The Ronin 4D Flex has suggested retail price of $929. That includes the Ronin 4D Flex, one pan axis quick-lock, two Ronin 4D handgrip adapters and two handgrip adapter cables.

The DJI DL PZ 17–28mm T3.0 lens has an SRP of $1,339. In addition, DJI has made the Apple ProRes RAW license for the Ronin 4D available for purchase at $979. dji.com
