Palo Alto, CA—DxO Labs released DxO FilmPack v4.5, an update of its analog film simulation software. DxO FilmPack v4.5 offers two new legendary film renderings, provides new creative looks and improves its palette of special effects so photographers can give their images a unique style, whether in color or in black and white.

The software enables photographers to apply to their digital images all of the characteristics of films that have made photo history to their digital images, along with original looks, filters, tonings and visual effects. All of the film renderings and effects can be infinitely combined and customized.

Available in two editions, Essential and Expert, DxO FilmPack v4.5 can be used under one license as both a stand-alone application for OS X and Windows as well as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, Adobe Lightroom, Apple Aperture and DxO Optics Pro.

DxO FilmPack v4.5 includes two new films: the legendary Agfa Scala 200x, a now-discontinued black & white slide film that offers an extraordinarily nuanced palette, exceptional patterning and a high level of detail, and the luminous Kodak Ektar 100, an ultra-vivid color negative film with very fine grain.

According to DxO Labs, they “perfectly reproduced the grain, quality and style of these two films by following a rigorous scientific process: taking carefully controlled photos with the analog films; developing the photos using two renowned professional photo development laboratories; and carefully scanning, digitizing and analyzing the developed shots.

Also featured in DxO FilmPack v4.5 Expert edition are six new Designer presets—two of which are also included in the Essential edition—that combine intensity of grain, contrast and saturation, color filtering, texture and framing, to give photos a unique atmosphere; features to facilitate original renderings, like a new tone curve tool that provides mastery of contrast and luminosity, and an automatic control that protects saturated colors and lets users preserve textures and details in vividly colored images; frame and light leak effects that can be more accurately adjusted; and toning effects that can be applied to just the image itself, or also to the special effects.

In addition, DxO FilmPack 4.5’s new export to Facebook feature lets users share their images via the social network. In just a few clicks, photographers can send a JPEG image to an album in their Facebook profile and add a comment.

The Essential edition of DxO FilmPack v4.5 for Mac and Windows has an SRP of $79; the Expert edition retails for $129. dxo.com
