Grand Rapids, MI—X-Rite Incorporated, a provider of color science technology and tools, is now shipping its i1Photo Pro 3 Plus. The spectral color measurement solution is specifically for professional photographers who print on challenging textured and glossy photo media.

i1Photo Pro 3 Plus enables accurate color in photographers’ RGB print workflows. It combines the new i1Pro 3 Plus spectrophotometer and i1Profiler software. Together they deliver “the ultimate professional level color management for displays, projectors, scanners RGB printers and cameras,” X-Rite announced.

Many profiling solutions are limited in their ability to measure textured, rough or uneven surfaces and cannot accommodate various material thicknesses. In addition, many do not have the resolution required to ensure the highest color quality when printing detailed patterns, metallic effects or photography images.

“The i1Photo Pro 3 Plus builds on the success of the i1 family and removes the variability to create accurate ICC profiles on a broader range of photographic materials,” said Liz Quinlisk, Photo and Video Business Unit Manager, X-Rite Inc. “Photographers will see immediate value by incorporating the i1Photo Pro 3 Plus into their RGB print workflow; resulting in more accurate, repeatable color, improved shadow detail, as well as a reduction of waste and an increased return on investment.”

The new spectrophotometer boasts a larger 8mm aperture. In addition, it supports new materials and substrates used in digital printing. Moreover, its polarization filter (measurement condition M3) reduces specular highlights and shadows to provide better blacks and richer colors on rough surfaces and glossy medias. The media includes canvas prints and fine art photo papers.

In addition, the spectrophotometer provides a high brightness measurement of up to 5K NITs for ultra-bright displays. Furthermore, a new LED illuminant improves device reliability. The i1Pro3 Plus also allows for four measurement conditions: ISO 13655 M0; M1, D50; M2, UV Excluded; and M3, Polarized. Other features include transmission scanning support for backlit materials and also a longer scanning ruler to support wider charts.

However, the new Pro 3 device will not work with the current version of X-Rite’s iO table. As a result, a new version of the iO table will ship in the fall.

New X-Rite iO Table

X-Rite’s new i1iO automated scanning table supports the i1Pro 3 Plus hardware. This hands-free test chart reader offers automated color profiling on various substrates for a reduced risk of color measurement errors.

Quinlisk added it is for color perfectionists who want to speed up and automate the measurement process as well as eliminate manual strip reading. Moreover, the new i1iO table works with various materials, including canvas, textiles, ceramics and corrugated. It also supports materials up to 33mm thick, with the optional z-axis spacer. And it works with transparencies as well as backlit materials.

Additional i1Pro 3 Plus Solutions

In addition to i1Photo Pro 3 Plus, X-Rite is now shipping two other new i1Pro 3 Plus solutions.

The i1Basic Pro 3 Plus includes monitor calibration and quality control for monitors and printers. The i1Publish Pro 3 Plus has a CMYK+ printer module and all the features of i1Photo Pro 3 Plus.

The X-Rite i1Photo Pro 3 Plus is available for preorder. It has a suggested retail price of $2,199.
