San Diego, CA—Nik Software’s first-ever mobile app, Snapseed, was named by Apple as iPad app of the year in the company’s App Store Rewind 2011, which names the year’s best apps as chosen by the App Store editorial team.

Snapseed, which works on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices, is designed to give anyone the ability to create quality photos and share their images directly from their iPad or iPhone.

“It’s very rewarding for our entire team to have Snapseed for iPad recognized as the number one app available for iPad, having released Snapseed just 6 months ago,” said Michael J. Slater, president and CEO of Nik Software. “We look forward to bringing Snapseed’s powerful, fun photo experience to the desktop and other devices as we continue to grow Snapseed.”

Snapseed introduces mobile users to Nik’s award-winning U Point technology, which enables anyone to make selective enhancements to a photo with the swipe of finger. It also helps users create photos with a variety of enhancement filters and tools, combining filters, textures and other effects to create the “perfect” photo. One-click adjustments automatically improve photos with filters like grunge, vintage, tilt & shift and drama. Users can capture, enhance, edit and share their photos via social networks, e-mail and print in just a few seconds.

Key features include: the ability to take photos directly in Snapseed for convenience; tune image, which correct photos shot in difficult lighting situations, creates depth or adjusts white balance, saturation and contrast with a few swipes; the ability to make precise selections and enhancements in seconds with U Point technology; the tilt & shift filter that creates a narrow in-focus area designed to simulate depth of field; a details filter that enhances details with traditional sharpening; cropping tools; the grunge effect that adds styles and textures; drama, which adds custom effects; vintage film effects that make photos look like vintage color film photos from the 50s, 60s or 70s; the ability to add organic frames and unique borders to photos; black-and-white filters; and the ability to share photos on Facebook, Flickr and Twitter, e-mail photos and print them using Apple’s AirPrint wireless printing.

Snapseed is available on the App Store at niksoftware.com/buysnapseedipad for $4.99.
