San Diego, CA—Sony Electronics introduced the Sony ECM-G1 shotgun microphone for enhanced video recording through high-quality sound collection. What’s more, the ECM-G1 is for vloggers and video content creators seeking a compact, high-quality mic.

The new mic boasts ambient sound suppression as well as clear frontal sound collection. The ECM-G1 includes a large-diameter (14.6mm) microphone capsule to provide clear sound collection while suppressing noise. Sony ECM-G1 shotgun microphone

“The ECM-G1 is the perfect accessory for video content creators on the go as it captures clear voices; includes a wind screen to reduce wind noise when shooting outdoors’ and has an optimized structure to suppress frequency vibration noise with anti-vibration dampers,” Sony announced.

The mic features clear sound collection when facing the front of the camera. Furthermore, its super-cardioidi and ambient sound suppression help ensure only wanted audio is captured. This is a particular benefit when recording in selfie mode.

The ECM-G1 is also effective in capturing clear conversation audio indoors by reducing echo pickup from walls and voice reverberation.

For anywhere, anytime recording, the microphone’s MI (multi-interface) shoe support enables additional power options as well as cable-free operation. The power is supplied directly from the camera to the microphone; this is true even when shooting with the vari-angle LCD monitor open horizontally. In addition, when connected via the MI shoe, the cableless design eliminates cable-transmitted vibration noise.

What’s more, the ECM-G1 is light and compact. It weighs 1.2 ounces and measures 1x2x1.9 inches (W x H x D). The microphone’s compact size and weight also provide flexibility and mobility when using gimbals and grips.

In addition, due to its small size, the front of the microphone remains out of the frame, even when using a wide-angle lens. Its compact form factor also allows creators to easily look through the camera viewfinder without the microphone touching the forehead.

The new shotgun mic includes a microphone jack as well as a recording cable. Consequently, it is compatible with a range of devices with a 3.5mm mic jack.

The Sony ECM-G1 will begin shipping on August 22, 2022. It has a suggested retail price of $150.

In related news, Sony announced it is striving for a zero environmental footprint, with its Road to Zero initiative. As a result, the company has replaced plastic packaging with paper for more than 1.4 million products.
