Lake Success, NY—Canon’s flagship Rebel T4i DSLR, with an 18MP CMOS (APS-C) sensor and a Digic 5 processor, achieves 5-fps continuous shooting and ISO 100–12,800 (expandable to 25,600). Canon also launched a new camera format with the compact, interchangeable-lens EOS M.

The T4i’s autofocus system is designed to record smooth HD video and includes hybrid CMOS AF, said to achieve fast focus when shooting stills or video in live view. And movie servo AF was added to provide quiet, continuous AF during video recording when using Canon’s Stepping Motor (STM) lenses.

The camera’s 3.0-inch touch-screen LCD (1.04 million dots) flips out and rotates 180º forward and 90º backward. With fingertip controls and a touch menu, photographers can pinch-to-zoom and swipe to scroll between pictures.

Other features include: scene intelligent auto mode; handheld night scene mode; HDR backlight control; and multi-shot noise reduction, which takes multiple pictures and combines them in-camera to capture a wider dynamic range, minimize noise and produce more vivid colors. And, video snapshot produces a highlight reel of recorded video; users can delete or reorder clips in-camera before exporting the album to post online.

The EOS Rebel T4i has an MSRP of $849.99 body only and $949.99 bundled with an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens. A movie kit bundle retails for $1,199 and includes the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens.

This compact system camera debuted for videographers and photographers of all levels, boasting pro-quality HD video capture and smooth, quiet continuous autofocus—in a portable magnesium and steel-framed body. It provides an 18MP APS-C-size CMOS sensor that offers a shallow depth of field, low-light performance and a wide dynamic range.

The CSC debuted with two dedicated lenses: the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM kit lens and the EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. The camera can be used with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses via the optional EF-EOS M mount adapter.

The camera records MPEG-4 AVC H.264 video as .MOV files in NTSC/PAL professional frame rates: 1080p Full HD video at 30p, 24p and 25p; 720p HD video at 60p or 50p; and standard definition video at 30p or 25p. It incorporates: Full HD movie mode with movie servo AF for continuous focus tracking of moving subjects; manual exposure control; a built-in stereo microphone; manual audio level adjustment; video snapshot mode; ISO 100-6400 settings (expandable to 12,800); and picture style settings, which let users adjust color settings.

Other key features include: ISO 100-12,800 (expandable to 25,600); a Digic 5 image processor; scene intelligent auto mode; handheld night scene mode; HDR backlight control; creative filters; multi-shot noise reduction; SD/SDHC/SDXC; and compatibility with Speedlite accessories and Canon’s GP-E2 GPS receiver.

The EOS M’s 3.0-inch Clear View touch-screen LCD monitor II (approximately 1,040,000 dots) has a smudge-resistant coating and features multi-touch operation, with menu navigation, subject recognition and tracking engaged at the touch of a finger.

The EOS M bundled with the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM kit lens ships in October for $799.99. The EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, EF-EOS M mount adapter and Speedlite 90EX will retail in October for $299.99, $199.99 and $149.99, respectively. usa.canon.com
