New York, NY—The Vienna, Austria-based Lomographic Society International announced the new Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art lens as a Kickstarter campaign. The lens, which allows users to precisely adjust swirling bokeh popular in portraiture, is currently a Kickstarter staff pick.

Coinciding with the 175th anniversary of Joseph Petzval’s hugely popular, revolutionary first lens, the new Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art lens is a continuation of the legacy that began in 1840. With a 58mm focal length, a maximum f/1.9 aperture and constructed of premium Russian glass optics, the new lens is available in a brass or black finish with Canon EF and Nikon F lens mounts.

Using the lens’s newly developed bokeh control ring, users are free to determine the strength of the swirly bokeh in their photos, allowing them to create “the characteristic swirly bokeh effect in ways it has never been possible before,” the company notes.

The 58mm f/1.9 Petzval 58 provides the perfect all-round focal length for street photography, landscapes, portraits and casual photos. And the company says, “The new Petzval 58 delivers crystal clear images with deeply strong color and character.” Additionally, the lens features a Waterhouse Aperture system (with plates ranging from f/1.9 to f/16) and a gear-rack focusing knob for smooth, fast focusing.

Manufactured by hand, the new Petzval 58 was specially developed to work with modern analogue and digital cameras. While the lens is available in Canon EF and Nikon F mounts, it is also compatible with a variety of other cameras using adapter mounts.

The fourth addition to the luxury Lomography Art lens family, the new Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art lens follows the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1, new Russar+ and the new Petzval 85mm Art lenses. Every Lomography Art lens brings a new variety of creative possibilities to a photographer’s camera bag. No Art lens is alike—each one offers the opportunity to get unique shots with a special optical character not found with regular photographic lenses.

The Lomographic Society International is a globally active organization dedicated to experimental and creative snapshot photography. Boasting millions of followers, Lomography is constantly expanding its selection of innovative cameras and photographic accessories to promote photography as a “creative approach to communicate, absorb and capture the world.” Lomography Gallery Stores and Embassy Stores provide the company’s full product range and a place for exhibitions, workshops, meet ups and all Lomographic needs.

The new Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art lens is exclusively available on Kickstarter, and the campaign ends in nine days. The first delivery of lenses is planned for December 2015. lomography.com
