Las Vegas, NV—The new Nikon D3300 DSLR offers step-up photographers a 24.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor and Expeed 4 image processor to capture images and Full HD video. It also has an enhanced guide mode for those discovering the HD DSLR photography, optional Wi-Fi connectivity and in-camera effects. It will be kitted with the new compact 3x, AF-S DX Nikkor 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR II lens.

For FX-format photographers, Nikon also announced an f/1.8 prime lenses, the AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G, geared for low-light performance whether shooting landscapes, portraits or travel photos.

“With the new 24.2 megapixel Nikon D3300 and compact 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR II lens, capturing family vacations, dance recitals or the game-winning goal with clarity and brilliant image quality is effortless,” said Masahiro Horie, director, Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc. “As the latest addition to the extensive Nikkor lens lineup, the new AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G lens reinforces Nikon’s commitment to providing versatile prime lens options to photographers of all levels.”

The D3300’s 24.2MP sensor affords photographers the ability to capture details or crop images with confidence. For increased image quality, the sensor has no optical low-pass filter, boosting resolution and sharpness. The new Expeed 4 processor was added to help render true colors and detail while providing improved quality at high ISOs, enhanced auto white balance performance, faster processing speeds and improved battery efficiency.

Other features include: an optical viewfinder for composing shots; ISO 100–12,800 (expandable up to 25,600); an 11-point autofocus system; high-speed continuous shooting at 5 frames per second; compatibility with the optional WU-1a wireless mobile adapter that uses Wi-Fi connectivity for instant uploading of images and videos to a smart device and to remotely control the D3300 using the smart device as a remote “live view” monitor; 13 in-camera effects and four new effects modes (photo illustration, super vivid, pop, easy panorama); and Full HD 1080p video capture at 60p with full-time autofocus.

Nikon also expanded its guide mode to help users learn to capture photos and HD video. Guide mode teaches the basic functions of the camera but also works to help the user become a more knowledgeable photographer with access to four options: shoot photos using example images, view/delete, setup and retouch images in-camera.

The compact D3300 (4.9×3.8×2.9 inches) is constructed with carbon fiber for lightweight durability. To complement the small stature of the D3300, Nikon will bundle it with a new, more compact AF-S DX Nikkor 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR II standard zoom lens (27–82.5mm equivalent) with the retractable lens barrel design found in Nikon’s 1 Nikkor lens series. This design makes the camera package nearly 30% smaller and 25% lighter while incorporating VR image stabilization, a silent wave motor to ensure quiet AF operation and auto/manual focusing options.

The D3300 kit will be available in early February in black, red and gray for a suggested retail price of $649.95. The lens will also be sold separately for $249.95.

Sporting the popular 35mm focal length and covering a 63º angle of view with a constant f/1.8 aperture, the newest FX-format lens is engineered to provide viewfinder clarity, high contrast, low-light performance and depth-of-field control.
