Messaging of advanced cameras like the burgeoning mirrorless segment should be specifically targeted to the unique needs and wants of different age groups. Among the many attributes consumers think about when purchasing a new camera, there are a few cross-generational borders, such as image quality, quick capture speed and long-zoom capability.

Other features, however, show a real difference in preference between younger and older consumers. While video quality and having a “look through” (optical or electronic) viewfinder was important to both age groups, younger consumers were significantly more interested in having high video quality. Older consumers were more concerned than their younger counterparts about having a viewfinder beyond just the LCD screen to frame their shots.
