Minneapolis, MN—Polaroid unveiled the iM1836, the first Android-powered compact interchangeable-lens system camera engineered to make it easy for anyone to capture quality images and instantly share them.

The 18 megapixel camera, produced by authorized Polaroid licensee Sakar International, employs the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and comes with a 10–30mm optical zoom lens. The iM1836 offers consumers the flexibility to explore their creativity with interchangeable lenses, since all existing Micro Four Thirds lenses will work with the camera when using an adapter.

The lightweight iM1836 is portable and compact, so it can be carried in a backpack or purse to capture images wherever and whenever they happen. With its 3.5-inch capacitive touch-screen LCD and the fast and fluid Android interface/menu, the camera is designed to allow anyone to point, shoot, tag and share photos in a snap. Auto blink detection, auto face exposure and a pop-up flash also help ensure a quality shot every time.

The camera will also capture wide-angle panoramic shots as well as record 1080p Full HD video. Plus, the built-in HDMI output turns the iM1836 into a multimedia player; users can connect it to any TV or monitor to view videos or slideshows.

With built-in peer-to-peer Wi-Fi and Polaroid photo-sharing apps onboard, the Polaroid iM1836 lets users instantly upload image creations to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Vimeo and more, all at the touch of a button. When Wi-Fi isn’t available, built-in Bluetooth connectivity pairs the iM1836 with any Bluetooth-enabled device to upload images and video through a mobile phone, PC or iPod Touch.

The Polaroid iM1836 will hit store shelves in the first quarter of 2013 at an SRP of $399. polaroid.com
