Ridgefield Park, NJ—At the 2014 CES Samsung launched the NX30 compact system camera, its first premium S lens, the Galaxy Camera 2 and Smart P&S cameras.

NX30. With a 20.3MP APS-C CMOS sensor and Samsung’s NX AF II system designed for fast, accurate autofocus, the NX30 CSC is built to deliver shots “with sharp detail and intense colors” and dramatic foreground and background blur. It boasts a 1/8000-sec shutter speed, 9-fps shooting, a tiltable EVF (2,359k), a swivel 3.0-inch Super AMOLED display, ISO 100–25600, 3D capture, Full HD video/stereo recording and two custom modes. It also supports Samsung’s i-Function system, where shutter speed and aperture can be accessed from the lens, and i-Function Plus lets users reprogram existing buttons with their frequently used settings.

Its NFC/Wi-Fi capabilities make it easier to use a host of sharing features: Tag & Go lets users tap and share memories instantly, pairing the NX30 with NFC-enabled smartphones/tablets; Photo Beam enables the transfer of images/video to a smartphone/tablet by just touching the devices together; MobileLink lets users select multiple images to send to four smart devices at one time; AutoShare automatically sends photos as they’re taken to a smartphone/tablet; and Remote Viewfinder Pro permits control of the NX30 from a smartphone. In addition, the Dropbox cloud storage service is preloaded on the NX30 in selected regions.

16–50mm f/2–2.8 S ED OIS Lens.
With a versatile standard zoom angle of view, it allows users to take photos at frequently desired angles and vantage points. Samsung says its bright aperture (f/2.0 at 16mm; f/2.8 at 50mm) makes it “the brightest 3x zoom, among equivalent class lenses.” Other features include: iFunction; splash- and dustproof construction; an Ultra-Precise Stepping Motor (UPSM) that’s 3x more precise in its ability to control and focus on subjects; an optical image stabilizer; three aspherical lenses, two extra-low dispersion lenses and two eXreme High Refractive (XHR) lenses to reduce chromatic aberration, while the XHR allows for a more compact lens; and an “electro zoom with a seesaw type button” that permits photographers to click to zoom and take a photo from any view or angle.

Samsung Galaxy Camera 2.
Combining the imaging quality of a P&S camera with sharing capabilities and a design to match the latest smartphones, the retro-looking Galaxy Camera 2 is powered by a 1.6 GHz Quad Core processor and the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) platform, to make it easier to shoot and share high-quality images.

Other features include: a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor; a 23mm wide-angle, f/2.8–5.9, 21x optical zoom lens; a 4.8-inch HD touch LCD; smart mode with 28 modes; smart mode suggest, which recommends the best mode; a smart mode selfie alarm to take optimal self-portraits; and 2GB of RAM supplemented with the preloaded Dropbox app, which provides 50GB of free cloud storage for two years. Full HD video can be given a twist with the multi-motion video feature that lets users set the speed of capture—from eight times slower than normal to eight times faster. Also included are Wi-Fi/NFC and the new Tag & Go feature for connecting the camera to NFC-enabled smartphones/devices, Photo Beam, Mobile Link and Remote Viewfinder.
