Los Angeles, CA—The DJI Mavic 3 Pro was introduced as the company’s new flagship drone. Notably, it boasts a triple optical camera system for aerial storytelling. The drone houses three cameras with different focal lengths: the Mavic’s Hasselblad camera and two tele cameras.
“At DJI, we are constantly evolving our products to help capture fascinating scenery and explore visual storytelling through both video and stills,” said Ferdinand Wolf, creative director at DJI.
“The Mavic 3 Pro’s triple camera combination gives users the ability to switch between shot composition with just one tap. This allows content creators a wider variety of shots in less time than ever before.”
DJI Mavic 3 Pro: One Camera Drone, Three Lenses
The drone’s triple-camera system provides 24mm, 70mm and 166mm focal lengths for multiple scenarios. Pilots can establish the environment with the wide-angle, move into a specific location with the medium tele, and focus on a particular area or character.
Moreover, the 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera shoots 12-bit RAW photos with a native dynamic range of 12.8 stops. Since the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution can accurately restore the colors the human eye perceives, users can also avoid postproduction and complex color presets.
Further, professional specifications include 5.1K video at 50 fps or DCI 4K at 120 fps. Plus, its 10-bit D-Log M color mode records one billion colors. Even in high-contrast scenarios, like sunrises, it delivers natural color gradations. And D-Log M mode reduces the difficulty of color grading.
And Mavic 3 Pro Cine provides extensive options for professional creators. All three cameras support Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422 as well as Apple ProRes 422 LT. It also has a built-in 1TB SSD and a 10Gbps lightspeed data cable for a professional workflow.
What’s more, the medium tele camera (70mm equivalent) is an option for a range of scenarios, from framing buildings to cars in commercial shoots. Its 1/1.3″ CMOS sensor and 3x optical zoom enable 48MP/12MP photo capture and 4K/60-fps video. It also supports D-log M. Additionally, this camera compresses the depth of field and depth of focus to highlight the subject and give a sense of depth and space.
Furthermore, by enhancing the Mavic 3’s tele camera, the Mavic 3 Pro features a camera with increased resolution, aperture (to f/3.4) and video frame rate. It shoots 4K/60-fps video with 7x optical zoom and 12MP photos. Hybrid zoom reaches up to 28x, permitting, for instance, animals to be observed at a safe distance without disturbing them.
More Features
The Mavic 3 Pro allows up to 43 minutes of flight time. Peace of mind is provided by Omnidirectional Sensing and APAS 5.0. Eight wide-angle vision sensors work with a vision computing engine to sense obstacles in all directions and plan a safe flight route.
Additionally, the drones DJI O3+ transmission system presents a stable, clear camera view. It transmits a 1080p/60-fps HD live feed at high frame rates at a distance up to 9.3 miles. However, transmission distance is a proxy for signal strength, and the drone should always fly within the pilot’s line of sight.
Other features, such as waypoint flight, cruise control and advanced RTH (return to home), help to elevate the automated flight experience. Waypoint flight automatically plans a flight route based on the user’s preset and can precisely repeat routes. With cruise control, users can set the Mavic 3 Pro to fly in any direction without continually pressing the control sticks for smoother camera movement during long-distance manual control. Finally, advanced RTH automatically determines a safe, efficient flight route back to the home point, bypassing obstacles on the RTH path.
DJI Signature Intelligent Features
The Mavic 3 Pro also features DJI’s suite of intelligent modes to lend a hand in helping pilots new and seasoned. For example, with FocusTrack, the Hasselblad camera and the medium tele camera can use ActiveTrack 5.0 as well as the spotlight and point of interest functions. This enables stable tracking shots in multiple directions.
The Hasselblad camera also supports three other intelligent modes:
- MasterShots: Enabled with one tap, it allows the drone to automatically shoot, edit and add soundtracks to generate cinematic footage.
- QuickShots: This enables the drone to perform diverse camera movements like dronie, rocket, circle, and helix.
- Panorama: Users can compose a 100MP lossless panorama photo to capture a more extensive and magnificent landscape.
Finally, after a day of capture, the high-speed QuickTransfer option allows quick image and video downloads direct from the drone to a mobile phone. It will do so over Wi-Fi 6 at speeds up to 80MB/second without connecting to the remote controller.
