Valhalla, NY—With the introduction of the Fujifilm X-S20 mirrorless, multimedia ILC and the ultrawide-angle Fujinon XF8mm f/3.5 R WR lens, the company also launched the Fujifilm XApp smartphone app. The app provides connectivity to enhance GFX and X photographers’ workflow.

The app was released today as a free download for compatible Apple iOS and Android devices. Moreover, the XApp joins the Fujifilm Camera Remote app, which connects a Wi-Fi-supported digital camera with a smartphone or tablet. Once the device is connected to the camera, users can remotely make, view and transfer images.

“Fujifilm listened carefully to user feedback when developing the Fujifilm XApp,” said Lisa Baxt, marketing director, Electronic Imaging Division, Fujifilm North America Corporation.

“The new XApp was engineered to provide superior connectivity and a host of useful functions that will enable our users to document, archive and share photos created on Fujifilm cameras. We are passionate about the digital advancement of our electronic imaging business, and the new XApp is a perfect example of our continued evolution.”

The goal of the XApp’s system design is to ensure quicker, smoother connectivity between the camera and smartphone and/or tablets, as compared to the Camera Remote app.

Fujifilm XApp Main Features

For instance, its “image transfer order” function will transfer images from a compatible Fujifilm camera to a smartphone/tablet even when the camera is powered off. It also transfers while creating images. Consequently, users can post images on social media and messaging apps directly from the XApp.

The XApp’s “image transfer order” function makes it possible to transfer images from a Fujifilm camera to a smartphone/tablet.

The app was also upgraded with a high-contrast design in black and white as base tones. In addition, the text size was increased from the Camera Remote app to create a user interface with improved visibility.

Remote Operation

Furthermore, when connected via Bluetooth, the XApp enables users to remotely operate compatible Fujifilm GFX system and X series cameras while checking the live view on a smartphone/tablet. Users can also configure image settings, such as aperture, ISO and shutter speed, from the connected smart device with the app.

In addition, via the XApp’s “backup/restore” function, users can save camera settings, like “shooting menu” and “setup menu” in the app. They can also restore them back to the applicable GFX or X camera. The app will also manage favorite camera settings for different subject types. This will make it quicker to change settings even during image creation.Fujifilm-XApp_connect_22

Plus, users can access settings saved in the connected camera via the XApp for instant recovery. What’s more, app users can share camera settings with multiple cameras of the same model via the app. The goal here is to streamline multi-camera sessions.

Moreover, the date, time and geolocation information of the Fujifilm camera connected to the XApp are automatically synched with the camera. If permission is given, it will record accurate geolocation data about a location in the image’s metadata. The recorded geolocation data is automatically displayed on the XApp’s timeline map.

Other Functions

Additionally, the app’s activity and timeline functions enable personalized data and file transfer options. For example, the XApp has a new “activity” function, which automatically aggregates and displays image information. This can include the number of images created or the camera/lens/film simulation mode used with a given image.

The XApp has an “activity” function that automatically aggregates and displays image information.

Further, a “timeline” function allows users to selectively permit the transfer of activity records to a smartphone/tablet. They can then chronologically view critical information. This data includes images, number of images created, image location information as well as the camera/lens used. Thus, the new app will auto-generate an activity feed that users can modify to suit individual preferences.

Firmware Updates & Camera Compatibility

The XApp will also issue a notification when new firmware is released for GFX system or X series cameras. Camera owners can follow the instructions in the notification to ensure the camera’s firmware is up to date.

The newly introduced Fujifilm X-S20 mirrorless digital camera is automatically compatible with the Fujifilm XApp, without added firmware. However, the following GFX and X models are also compatible, subject to downloading Fujifilm’s latest firmware releases:

  • Fujifilm GFX100, GFX100S, GFX50S II, GFX50R
  • Fujifilm X-H2S, X-H2, X-Pro3, X-T5, X-T4, X-T3, X-T30 II, X-T30, X-S10, X-E4, X100V

The Fujifilm XApp smartphone app is now available for download for compatible iOS (13, 14, 15, 16) and Android OS (11, 12, 13) users.
