Sarasota, FL—LaserSoft Imaging’s newly developed printer calibration software, SilverFast 8, is engineered to guarantee color precision and printing quality. Flexible settings allow the optimization of previously generated ICC compliant profiles. The printer calibration uses the existing scanner as a measuring device, eliminating the need for additional hardware.

Initially, the scanner is calibrated by using SilverFast’s patented auto IT8 calibration. The next step is to print a full gamut printer target containing 1.026 fields and over 1.000 tonal values. While the printer target is being scanned, SilverFast automatically generates and saves an ICC profile for the chosen printer/paper combination in the system’s ICC-profile directory. This helps ensure that the entire available color space will be used with the maximum number of colors.
Since color is a subjective perception, SilverFast offers the option of editing the generated profile according to the user’s desires. This inherently complex task of color space adaptation is said to be easily handled. Based on the generated ICC profile, a new target is printed in which users can select the most neutral tonal values according to their perceptions. After this, SilverFast computes a personal user profile and saves it.
The “error-free” workflow controls the process from scan to printout, aiding professional photographers, fine art printers and amateur shooters in obtaining optimum results. Another benefit is the broad spectrum of printers, ink and paper types that are supported by the software, which enables users to experiment and print with a greater range of materials.
