Teaneck, NJ—Based on consumer demand, Leica Camera launched the Leica SL2 silver edition camera. Furthermore, it is reminiscent of the typical design of the popular silver Leica M and Leica R camera classics.
The silver edition features a silver anodized top plate and base plate. Its black leather covering is identical to the Leica M11 and rounds off the classic look. Moreover, it is complemented by the M-adapter L and compact M lenses.
Leica SL2 Silver Edition
The technical specifications of the silver Leica SL2 are the same as those of the series model in black. Intuitive and easy to use, it produces 47MP photographs and 4K videos. The camera is centered around a 47-megapixel, full-frame CMOS sensor with sensor-based body image stabilization. This allows the SL2 to get the best image and video quality possible with Leica lenses. The integrated BIS system achieves up to 5.5 stops of stabilization with any lens.
In addition, its high dynamic range and sensitivity range of up to ISO 50,000 deliver in all lighting conditions. The Leica SL2 also uses a Maestro III processor to enable fast burst shooting and 4K video. It records 4K video at up to 60 fps and has a cropped 5K mode.
For pros operating in a high-level workflow, the SL2 can be set to cine mode to “speak the language” of cinematographers. For example, shutter speed becomes shutter angle and ISO becomes ASA. What’s more, the camera has built-in 3.5mm headphone and mic jacks and 10-bit output direct to a card.
It also boasts an OLED electronic viewfinder with 5.76 million dots of resolution. The EVF couples with a large, 3.2-inch rear LCD and the Leica three-button control layout. Furthermore, its contrast-detect autofocus system is capable of face detection and body detection, to track moving subjects and maintain pinpoint accuracy. Photographers can use intelligent-AF (iAF) to focus on still subjects and begin tracking them as soon as they move. They can also fine-tune focusing settings and tolerances for tracking.
The Leica SL2 silver edition has a suggested retail price of $6,995.
Leica SL2 Silver Kits
In addition, Leica is offering two kits with the silver edition SL2. The silver Leica SL2 is available in a kit with the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24–70 f/2.8 Asph for $7,495. The second kit consists of the silver anodized design version, the classic Noctilux-M 50 f/1.2 Asph as well as the M-adapter L. It retails for $13,995.
