Melville, NY—Three Canon RF lenses were introduced for still photography as well as videography. They range from ultrawide-angle to ultra-telephoto lenses, to capture a variety of scenes.

The RF-S10–18mm f/4.5–6.3 IS STM, RF24–105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z and the RF200–800mm f/6.3–9 IS USM lenses can benefit a wide range of users—from beginners to working professionals. Canon plans to release all three lenses for their mirrorless system in December 2023.

This new lens offers users of APS-C-format EOS R-series cameras an ultrawide-angle zoom. A solution for both still images and video, it is an option for vloggers, travelers, and general shooters. Further, Canon says the lens can benefit beginners in video and still photography to more advanced pros.

What’s more, the ultrawide zoom provides an equivalent focal range of 16–29mm on full-frame cameras. It also offers integrated image stabilization (IS), for enhanced sharpness in handheld shooting and video steadiness. The lens provides 4.0 stops of shake compensation and, via coordinated control IS, 6.0 stops with cameras featuring in-body IS. In addition, its compact and lightweight design make it a choice for travel. The lens measures 2.7 (diameter) x 1.8 (length) inches and weighs 5.3 ounces.

It also boasts a new 12 element, 10-group optical design, optimized for the RF lens mount and APS-C sensors. The design uses one aspheric and two UD (ultralow dispersion) lenses to combat various aberrations. It also uses Canon Super Spectra coating (SSC) to reduce flare and ghosting.

For videographers, the lens employs a leadscrew-type STM (stepping motor) focus drive system for smoother movie AF. Canon engineered the STM for quiet operation and smooth focus changes during recording. Plus, it supports focus breathing correction: the camera digitally corrects for changes in angle of view caused by focus movement during recording.

The RF-S10–18mm f/4.5–6.3 IS STM has a budget-friendly suggested retail price of $329.99.

RF24–105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z

This new RF24–105mm lens is for still and video professionals who want a single lens that can handle most tasks with low-light capabilities. In addition, Canon says, “This is the world’s first 24–105mm focal length lens combined with consistent f/2.8 maximum aperture, offering true portrait-length telephoto coverage resulting in sharp images.” Consequently, the lens is a solution for high-end photographers, photojournalists and video content creators.

Optimized for high-level video, key features include a constant overall length when zooming; a manual aperture ring for video use; as well as an IS system. That system achieves 5.5 stops of shake correction and works with coordinated control IS for 8 stops with IBIS cameras. Additionally, it has a click-less iris ring for quiet, precise aperture control. It also uses an 11-bladed aperture to enhance bokeh. Furthermore, it has a 1.5-foot close focusing distance at all focal lengths and a 0.29x max magnification (105mm). Plus, Canon’s Nano USM (ultrasonic motor) drive system maintains focus while zooming.

Furthermore, the lens boasts a 23-element, 18-group design with four UD elements, three aspheric elements and SSC coating. It measures 3.5×7.8 inches and weighs 2.9 pounds. It’s also dust and weather resistant with a fluorine coating.

Supports Power Zoom Adapter

In addition, the RF24–105mm is compatible with a new power zoom adapter. The optional accessory permits smooth zooming during video operation. The detachable device also allows for more natural movement when zooming in and out as well as easier control for solo camera operators. Canon is making a standard version of the power zoom adapter available as well as a 20-pin port version to support zoom and focus demands.

Both versions will reach retail in spring 2024. The standard version will have an SRP of $999.99. The 20-pin port version will retail for $1,299.

Moreover, Canon will release firmware updates in early December for the EOS C70 and EOS R5 C cameras that add support for the RF24–105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z lens. The lens has an SRP of $2,999.

Lastly, for nature, wildlife and outdoor sports shooters, Canon introduced the RF200–800mm f/6.3–9 IS USM super-telephoto zoom lens. Canon built the lens to be easily handheld for capturing a range of subjects. The lens measures 4.0×12.4 (at 200mm) inches and weighs 4.5 pounds.

Features of the RF200–800mm f6.3–9 IS USM lens also include an impressive 800mm focal length and 5.5 stops of image stabilization. Its 17-element, 11-group optical design utilizes three UD lenses and SSC. Plus, its Nano USM mechanism permits quiet, smooth AF during movie recording that also supports focus breathing correction.

For enhanced operability, Canon integrated a focus/control ring on the lens barrel for adjusting various settings. They include shutter speed, aperture as well as exposure compensation. It also acts as a manual focus ring. Furthermore, two lens function buttons enable you to program specific functions to occur at the press of either button, such as immediate access to eye-detect AF.

In addition, compatibility with optional Canon RF 1.4x and 2x tele extenders means you can get even closer to distant subjects with zoom power up to 1120mm and 1600mm, respectively.

The lens also has a dust- and weather-resistant design on the mount, switches, buttons, focus/control ring, zoom ring and adjustment ring. Plus, white paint was applied as a heat countermeasure when shooting outdoors. With an included rotating tripod mount, the RF200–800mm f/6.3–9 IS USM lens has an SRP of $1,899.
