Melville, NY—Along with the budget-friendly EOS R8 and EOS R50 mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, Canon added two RF-mount lenses to the EOS system line. The RF-S lens line, for APS-C sensors, expanded with the Canon RF-S55–210mm F5–7.1 IS STM. Also announced was the RF24–50mm F4.5–6.3 IS STM for full-frame ILCs.

This compact, lightweight telephoto zoom provides 88–336mm-equivalent coverage on a full-frame camera. It features 4.5 stops of optical image stabilization. And its 28.7-inch close-focusing with a 0.28x magnification can fill the frame with a subject roughly 2×3 inches in size (210mm setting).

Furthermore, it utilizes Canon’s STM stepping motor to support movie servo AF for smooth, quiet and continuous focus adjustments. The lens’s optical design employs two UD (ultralow-dispersion) lens elements to reduce chromatic aberration. This enables to the lens to achieve image quality with high resolution and contrast. Moreover, the lens has a compact design thanks to a mechanical six-group zoom system.

In addition, a 7-blade circular aperture delivers soft backgrounds. The lens is an option whether shooting video, landscapes, portraits, travel or pets. Plus, with a focal length up to the equivalent of 336mm when paired with an APS-C sensor, the zoom lens lets users get close while keeping at a safe distance.

Measuring 2.7×3.7 (wide), and weighing 9.5 ounces, it has a suggested retail price of $349.99.

The entry-level RF24–50mm f/4.5–6.3 IS STM is a standard zoom for full-frame EOS R-series cameras. Ranging from wide angle to standard coverage at 50mm, it has a compact, travel friendly design.

With optical IS, it also achieves 4.5 stops of shake-correction for video and still shooting. On an APS-C-sensor Canon camera, it provides 38–80mm-equivalent coverage. This lens has a 28.7-inch minimum focus distance and also uses a stepping motor for smooth, quiet AF, even during video operation.

For everyday shooting as well as vlogging, it supports movie digital IS when connected to a camera with this feature. Its optical design includes two aspheric elements, and Canon Super Spectra Coating (SSC) minimizes ghosting and flare.

The lens also incorporates a focus/control ring on its barrel that directly adjusts numerous settings, including shutter speed, aperture and exposure compensation. Located toward the front of the lens, it essentially adds a third dial to the EOS R camera’s main dial and quick control dial. Photographers can quickly set the focus/control ring to AF, MF or “control,” thanks to the dedicated switch on the barrel of the lens.

Weighing less than 0.5 pound, it measures just over 2 inches fully retracted and under 3.5 inches extended. SRP: $299.99.
