West Caldwell, NJ－Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation launched two Ricoh wide-angle lenses for Pentax K-mount digital SLR cameras: the HD Pentax-DA★ 11–18mm f/2.8 ED DC AW and the HD Pentax-FA 35mm f/2. Both lenses are for outdoor photography, with special features to enhance shooting in rugged conditions.
Ricoh Star Series Wide-Angle Zoom
The HD PENTAX-DA★ 11–18mm f/2.8 ED DC AW adds a wide-angle model to the new-generation Star (★) series of lenses. Moreover, these lenses are optimized for today’s cameras as well as the super-high-performance digital cameras of the future.
The lens “delivers high-resolution, high-contrast images without blurring at the edges, and assures excellent imaging performance, even at open aperture,” Ricoh announced. The focal length of 11mm to 18mm (17–27.5mm equivalent) excels at photographing landscapes and other outdoor scenes. In addition, the large f/2.8 maximum aperture assures sharp, bright images of scenes with starry skies. The lens also features HD coating to enhance imaging power and minimize flare and ghost images.
For use in the harshest conditions, the new Star lens offers additional features that make it ideal for outdoor photography. These include dustproof, weather-resistant construction as well as a focus clamp mechanism to lock the focal point even when the focus ring is rotated. This improves operability when photographing landscapes and star-lit scenes.
Another feature of the HD Pentax-DA★ 11–18mm f/2.8 ED DC AW is a grooved area on the lens barrel. This area accommodates a dew heating strip to prevent condensation, without affecting focus ring operation; a metal frame enables the heating device to transmit heat to the lens. The lens has a retail price of $1,399.95.
Compact, Wide-Angle Lens for Full-Frame Cameras
The HD Pentax-FA 35mm f/2 is a wide-angle lens that covers the large, full-frame sensor of Pentax K-mount DSLR cameras. Employing the latest lens coatings and a newly redesigned exterior, the portable lens is for everyday snapshots. It’s also handy for a range of applications, including scenic photography and portraiture.
In addition, when mounted on a Pentax DSLR body, the lens provides a moderately wide 35mm angle of view with a full-frame model; on an APS-C-format camera, it has a standard 53.5mm angle of view.
Moreover, multilayer coating reduces reflectance and improves light transmittance to deliver clear, high-contrast images free of flare and ghosting. This is said to be true even in backlighting. The lens also integrates a stain-repellent coating on the front surface to improve usability in outdoor locations. It retails for $399.95.
