Portland, OR—Lensbaby, makers of creative effects lenses, optics and accessories, announced the Twist 60 lens. The new lens is designed to create vignette that calls attention to any subject placed within the large central area of focus, crafting a vintage look. The lens mounts directly to a camera and is only for use with full-frame format cameras.
The metal-bodied, non-tilting Twist 60 is a 60mm f/2.5 lens with gold anodized accents. It’s engineered to create portraits that spotlight subjects by freeing them from their background and surrounding them with swirly blur and enhanced vignette. The brighter the aperture, the greater the swirl and the greater the vignette will be.
“Twist 60 embodies our love of old lenses and their unique ways of helping photographers discover creative possibilities,” said Craig Strong, Lensbaby’s cofounder and chief creative officer. “True to an 1840 design by Joseph Petzval, this lens reveals striking separation between subjects and their background, a quality that modern lens designs lack.”
Key features of Lensbaby’s Twist 60 lens include: a 12-blade, f/2.5–22 aperture; a 60mm focal length; 4-element, 3-group construction; 46mm filter threads; a minimum focus distance of 18 inches; and the ability to create twisty, swirly background blur. The new creative lens is available in Canon EF, Nikon F and Sony E lens mounts.
The Twist 60 sports a black anodized body with a gold anodized aperture ring. The lens is available for preorder and will ship in early May for a suggest retail price of $279.95. In addition, the Twist 60 Optic will be sold separately for use with other Lensbaby Optic Swap system-compatible lenses. It retails for $179.95.
Lensbaby’s line of creative effects lenses, optics and accessories includes the Velvet 56, a portrait and macro lens; the company’s Optic Swap system, which enables photographers to swap their optic and tilt their lens for limitless effects; and mobile lenses designed to elevate smartphone photography. lensbaby.com
