Melville, NY—Nikon’s Nikkor Z DX 24mm F1.7 is a new fast aperture compact prime lens. It is also extremely affordable. Moreover, the lens was created for Nikon Z-mount APS-C-size/DX-format mirrorless cameras.

Further, it is the first prime APS-C-format Nikkor Z lens. The new lens will provide a wide range of content creators with the benefits of a versatile angle of view and fast f/1.7 aperture for blurred backgrounds and low-light performance.

The quality of the out-of-focus areas of an image, also known as bokeh effects, is unique to fast maximum apertures. It allows photographers to dramatically emphasize the subjects in still-life and portrait photography.

What’s more, the new 24mm f/1.7 lens enables the capture of high-resolution photos and video in dimly lit conditions. That’s because it permits more light to enter. In addition, images recorded under such circumstances exhibit very little blur, even when shot handheld. And that is due to the fast shutter speed afforded with wider apertures.

In addition, the 24mm focal length is ideal for a wide variety of scenes. For instance, tabletop photos, portraits and landscapes.

The lens’s fast maximum aperture of f/1.7 makes it a solution for rendering content that includes large bokeh for both still-image and video recording. Its shallow depth of field creates artistic background blur.

Plus, during handheld shooting in dimly lit and dark surroundings, the fast aperture enables fast shutter speeds to reduce the effects of camera shake. It also allows photographers to use lower ISO sensitivities for less noise.

What’s more, the prime’s convenient angle of view at the 24mm focal length and its 7-inch minimum focus distance support the capture of various scenes. The 7-inch (0.18m) minimum focus distance lets you get close to subjects such, as flowers or tabletop objects, for images that emphasize the subject with big background bokeh. Complementing this is a 7-bladed rounded diaphragm.

Plus, because the lens is compact at 2.8×1.6 inches and weighs just 4.8 ounces, it is easy to carry around for everyday use.

The lens is constructed with 9 elements in 8 groups, including two aspherical elements to combat aberrations. In addition, the prime adopts a stepping motor (STM) for quiet autofocusing and minimized focus sounds in video.

Nikon also designed the lens with consideration for the suppression of focus breathing. Consequently, it enables smooth focusing with less change in the angle of view, even when the focus point changes during video recording.

Nikon’s Nikkor Z DX 24mm f/1.7 lens will reach retail in mid-June 2023. It will have a suggested retail price of $279.95.
