Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary Features
The new, compact, lightweight, large-aperture standard zoom lens boasts a control algorithm that optimizes the AF drive and communication speed specifically for X-mount interchangeable lenses. In addition to realizing high-speed AF, the lens also supports AF-C (continuous AF) and in-camera aberration correction.
Sigma’s first APS-C-size mirrorless zoom lens, its compact body maximizes the portability of an APS-C mirrorless camera. Despite its large aperture of f/2.8, Sigma says the lens is the smallest and lightest in its class (as of October 2022). It has a maximum diameter of 2.4 inches, a length of 3 inches and a weight of 10 ounces.
Moreover, the lens offers a zoom range of 27–75mm in the 35mm format. It also has a wide aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. As a result, photographers can create artistic bokeh expressions.
Furthermore, it provides a minimum focusing distance of 4.8 inches and a maximum magnification of 1:2.8 (wide end). As a result, photographers can take advantage of the compact shooting system to shoot close-ups.
In addition, the lens is constructed of 13 elements in 10 groups. They include one special-low dispersion (SLD) element and three aspherical lenses. The lens also features seven rounded diaphragm blades to help create a bokeh effect.
Sigma bundles the lens with the LH582-02 petal-type hood as well as front and rear caps. The Sigma 18–50mm f/2.8 DC DN | Contemporary X-mount version lens has a suggested retail price of $549.
