Ronkonkoma, NY—The new Sigma 23mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is a wide-angle, fast-aperture prime lens specifically for APS-C-format mirrorless systems. Moreover, the lens offers a 35mm-equivalent (full-frame) field of view with the 1.5x crop factor applied.

Sigma is offering the prime lens in Sony E-, Leica L- and Fujifilm X-mount versions. The E- and L-mount models are now available. However, Sigma will not ship the X-mount version until summer 2023.

To take advantage of the mobility of APS-C mirrorless cameras, the lens body is compact and lightweight. It weighs 12 ounces and measures a palm-size 2.6×3 inches (L mount). In addition, it has a filter diameter of 52mm. While developed for compact APS-C mirrorless cameras, it will also support high-megapixel, full-frame mirrorless cameras in APS-C crop mode.

The lens offers rich bokeh effects thanks to its f/1.4 brightness and 9-blade rounded diaphragm. Plus, it has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:7.3 and a minimum focusing distance of just under 10 inches. Consequently, it is an option for various applications, including landscape, portrait and table photography, as well as journalism and everyday snapshooting.

To achieve high descriptive power, Sigma designed the lens’s optical construction with 13 elements in 10 groups. Furthermore, three SLD (special-low dispersion) glass elements and two aspherical lens elements help achieve sharp, clear images—even at the maximum aperture.

Additionally, to counteract ghosting and flare to enable clear shooting even in backlit environments, the lens features super multilayer coating.

What’s more, produced at Sigma’s sole production facility in Aizu, Japan, the lens body provides a balance between optical performance and compactness. Its AF drive system uses a quiet, high-speed stepping motor for still and video capture. Sigma’s latest algorithm also enables quick focusing.

In addition, the lens supports switching between linear and nonlinear focus ring settings with L-mount cameras. On these cameras, it’s possible to switch to linear focus, whereby the focus shifts by a fixed amount according to the rotation angle of the focus ring.

With an inner focus system, the lens is compatible with high-speed autofocus as well as lens aberration correction on supported camera models. It also supports DMF and AF+MF as well as AF assist (E mount only). Further, the lens works with Sigma’s optional UD-11 USB dock.

Supplied with a petal-type hood and front/rear caps, the dust- and splash-resistant lens sports a durable brass bayonet mount. The Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN | Contemporary lens has a suggested retail price of $549.
