Ronkonkoma, NY—Sigma Corporation of America is touting the new Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art lens as currently the world’s first zoom lens with a constant f/1.8 aperture for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Available in the Sony E and L mounts, the wide-to-standard zoom spans focal lengths from 28mm to 45mm.

Further, Sigma developed the new 28–45mm f/1.8 DG DN | Art as a full-frame successor to the Sigma 18–35mm f/1.8 DC HSM | Art for APS-C DSLR cameras. The lens’s maximum f/1.8 aperture allows full-frame camera users to expose handheld in low light as well as produce artistic bokeh, while enjoying the flexibility of a zoom lens.

An 18-element, 15-group construction effectively arranges three aspherical and five SLD (special low-dispersion) glass lens elements. They work to suppress various aberrations and achieve performance comparable to single focal length lenses. In particular, it focuses on suppressing axial chromatic aberration, which is often noticeable in large-aperture lenses. Consequently, it can achieve images with minimal coloration on both the focus plane and bokeh. Further, Sigma’s Nano Porous and Super Multi-Layer coatings minimize flare and ghosting to produce clear images, even in backlit environments.

Additionally, it offers an 11.8-inch minimum focusing distance throughout its ranSIGMA-28-45mm-DG-DN-Art-w-hoodge. Further, a 1:4 maximum magnification ratio is produced at the 45mm focal length.

The new lens also features internal zooming. As a result, the overall length of the lens remains constant when the focal length or focus distance changes. This makes it easier to use when shooting handheld, as well as stable when mounted on a tripod or gimbal. In addition, it enhances its dust- and splash-resistant design.

What’s more, the lens offers HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) autofocus. The AF mechanism uses an HLA to combine accelerated focusing speed with precision. And because the motor is near-silent, it allows video recording without noise. Additionally, for accurate manual focus, the lens employs a bi-wire driven focus ring with an optimized torque setting and an adjustable rotation angle between 90° and 720°. Along with suppressed focus breathing, this also allows filmmakers to pull focus with organic smoothness, and photographers to focus manually with more accuracy.

Plus, a balanced design adds to its ability to capture video work, including gimbal setups. Moreover, a click/de-click switch and lockable aperture ring make it a solution for various personal capture preferences.
