Ronkonkoma, NY—Addressing the portrait lens category, the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens boasts a completely new design for full-frame mirrorless cameras; as the “DN” designation indicates. Moreover, the lens is a total reinvention of the fast-aperture portrait prime that combines optical performance with a compact, dust- and splashproof body.

“Briefly put, the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art pairs large-aperture, professional-caliber optical performance with a lightweight, sturdy and compact body; a combination which has long been difficult to achieve,” reported Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America.

“This vision is finally realized with the new 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens.”

Offered in L-mount as well as Sony E-mount versions, the lens features a new optical formula. It comprises five special low dispersion elements (SLD) and one aspherical element for edge-to-edge image sharpness. In addition, the new formula corrects aberrations, for visually pleasing images with no color bleed, even at maximum aperture.

Furthermore, the lens’s 11-blade rounded diaphragm ensures smooth, attractive bokeh. And, the 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens is handcrafted to exacting optical and mechanical tolerances in Sigma’s Aizu, Japan, production facility.

What’s more, a smaller focusing lens is paired with a stepping motor; it is optimized for both phasedetection and contrastdetection autofocus. As a result, the new lens is notably smaller than the 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens. In fact, it is more than an inch shorter and more than a pound lighter than the previous version

Other benefits are dust and splashproof construction; aluminum and TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) materials; a brass bayonet; and well-damped switches as well as rings that demonstrate the build quality the Art name represents.

Additional features include an aperture ring that allows for clicked and de-clicked operation; a programmable AFL button on the barrel; and an iris ring lock switch that prevents unintended movement of the aperture ring during image capture.

The 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens begins shipping late August. It will have an MSRP of $1,199.
