San Diego, CA—Sony Electronics introduced the Planar T* FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA full-frame lens for its E-mount camera system (model SEL50F14Z).
The company also announced pricing and the availability of its FE 70–200mm f/2.8 GM OSS G Master lens, 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters, plus a new wireless lighting control system. The system is comprised of the FA-WRC1M wireless radio commander and the FA-WRR1 wireless radio receiver.
The FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA prime lens has a large f/1.4 maximum aperture. The lens is designed to produce high contrast and resolution throughout the entire image frame at all aperture settings. The f/1.4 aperture “provides a level of brightness and speed that are advantageous for dimly lit indoor shots, night scenes and portraits,” announced Sony.
The lens’s optical structure includes AA (advanced aspherical) and ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements to reduce spherical and chromatic aberration. A Zeiss T* coating is also applied to minimize flare and ghosting, while its Planar design helps abate distortion. And, an 11-bladed circular aperture allows for artistic bokeh, or background defocus, in images.
The lens also features an aperture ring with an adjustable on/off switch, an AF/MF focus mode switch and a dust- and moisture-resistant design. It’s equipped with a ring drive SSM (supersonic wave motor) system, to enable efficient lock focus in near silence. This makes the lens particularly useful for shooting movies.
Sony’s FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA lens will ship in July for a retail price of $1,500.
